The story of DinoPark

A unique concept of 8 theme parks in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Spain. Each year, more than 1,000,000 visitors come to the parks. More than 150 DinoEnthusiasts take care of the world of DinoParks. Caring for the dinosaurs is a daily job for them, either directly in the parks or during manufacture. Each DinoPark offers dozens of unique life-size moving and static models of the ancient rulers of our planet. If you visit all the DinoParks, you’ll meet more than 800 dinosaurs

The story of DinoPark began in 2002 in Pilsen and was the result of enthusiasm and effort of the network’s founder, Jiří Machálek. The first park opened in 2003 in Pilsen, where the first 40 dinosaurs found their home. In its opening season, DinoPark in Pilsen welcomed over 200,000 visitors, and it was clear that the world of dinosaurs attracted small and big enthusiasts alike.

In 2004, another DinoPark was created in Slovakia in the centre of Bratislava (closed 2021). The very next year, another breakthrough came with the launch of the first robotic dinosaurs created by the DinoTeam designers. In 2006, the first DinoPark in Moravia opened in the picturesque forest park in Vyškov. In 2007, a 3D DinoCinema with its own 3D movie started and more parks opened – DinoPark Ostrava (2009), DinoPark Prague (2011), DinoPark Liberec (2012), DinoPark Košice (2013), DinoPark Algar (2014), DinoPark Belgorod (2017), which closed in 2022, and the latest park in 2023 was DinoPark Budapest in Hungary. In 2019, DinoDesigners launched a new generation of robotic models. The most popular with children and adults is clearly the peeing Triceratops.

From the start, I wanted the DinoPark to be more than just a theme park that shows fantastic models. I always made sure we used the latest paleontological knowledge available to science.

Our paleontologist

RNDr. Josef Pšenička, Ph.D. (*1973) graduated in paleontology at the Faculty of Natural Science of Charles University in Prague. As a part of his PhD studies, he completed a research fellowship with Dr. Erwin L. Zodrov at CBU (Canada), was a co-researcher or researcher of many grant projects (domestic and international). His main scientific interests are taxonomy of fossil ferns, environmental science and cuticular analysis. He currently works as the head of the Paleobiodiversity Centre at the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen and occasionally lectures at the Faculty of Natural Science of Charles University in Prague.

Where (not only) dinosaurs are born

You can’t buy good quality dinosaurs anywhere. Initially, it was assumed that dinosaur models would be available globally. However, in 2002 there were no suppliers able to provide sufficient quantity, quality or service. So it was necessary to start producing our own models, first static and then robotic. Gradually, a specialized workshop – MACHINE PLANET company – opened and became the exclusive supplier of models, decorations and service work for the entire network of DinoPark Europe theme parks. The workshops have been running at full speed for 23 years now, delivering ever better and more lifelike looking dinosaurs to DinoParks. Behind every model there is also a story of enthusiasts, some of whom were at the birth of the very first dinosaurs and are involved in the production of the latest models.
